More than 100 Molson Coors employees clean up shoreline in Verdun

MONTREAL, Sept. 15, 2011 /CNW Telbec/ - Within the framework of a global initiative dubbed 'September: Water Stewardship Month', Molson Coors has joined forces with World Wildlife Fund-Canada (WWF-Canada), an organization devoted to wildlife and habitat preservation, and the protection of nature in general.  Drawing on mutual strengths, the two organizations this morning focused efforts on cleaning up the shoreline in Verdun, an activity part of the "Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup" initiative.

The event pointed up the effectiveness and enthusiasm of the fifteen members of the Molson Coors Build the Bench team and the some hundred employees who accompanied them. "Our team of leaders rose to the challenge of organizing volunteers and orchestrating the cleanup operation. Together, we are proud of the positive impact that we have made on the environment and hope that our efforts will allow Montrealers to benefit more fully from this green space," stated Pierre Laflamme, Operations Coordinator and Build the Bench Team Leader with Molson Coors.

In addition to Molson Coors employees, several other individuals were present for the event. They included Alain Tassé, an elected official from the Borough of Verdun, Raymond Carrier of, as well as Marie-Claude Lemieux of WWF-Canada and her organization's mascot, Panda. In the space of a few short hours, the group of volunteers had cleaned up the Verdun shoreline following which they enjoyed a well deserved barbecue.

"Water is a precious and very necessary commodity. We are deploying cleanup operations of this nature in areas across the country in an effort to raise citizen awareness of the challenges associated with this cause dear to our hearts. Challenges which are critical not only to the protection of the environment but also to the very survival of the human race," explained Monique Dépatie, Manager, Community Relations with Molson Coors.

Tradition of community commitment

The cleanup operation along the shoreline in Verdun is part of the Molson Coors Month of Action Program, a worldwide volunteer initiative focusing on community involvement.  All 15 000 employees in Canada, the United Kingdom and the United States proudly contribute to this global initiative.  Molson Coors has designated the months of April and September as Months of Action.

At Molson Coors, the tradition of giving back to the community dates back 225 years to John Molson who founded the brewery in Montreal on the shores of the Saint Lawrence.  In 1825, John Molson addressed employees, stating as follows: 'We are all members of a larger community which depends on everyone playing a part.' Today, this principle remains firmly entrenched in the company's cultural fabric. "Our employees readily embrace the sense of community commitment instigated by founder John Molson. Indeed, they view this principle as a source of pride and are always eager to invest themselves in community-based projects promoted through the Molson Coors Volunteer Program," Ms Dépatie went on to say.
