Montréal welcomes internationally-acclaimed chefs to a major event that brings together Maîtres Cuisiniers and Académie culinaire de France members

MONTREAL, May 25, 2011 /CNW Telbec/ - From May 29 to 31, 2011, Montréal, world-class capital of haute cuisine, will be proud to welcome some 100 members of the Canadian-American delegation of the Association des Maîtres Cuisiniers de France (MCF) (Master Chefs of France; MCF) and the Académie culinaire de France (ACF) for a major prestigious event.

The event consists primarily of three activities: the MCF's 60th anniversary celebrations, the 46th Annual General Meeting of the MCF Canadian-American delegation, and the 29th MCF/ACF friendship dinner. All three will be presided over by his Excellency, Mr. François Delattre, French Ambassador to Canada, and his Excellency's wife, Mrs. Sophie Delattre.

"The Association des Maîtres Cuisiniers de France ensures that the essence and traditions of French cuisine endure. Receiving the title of Maître Cuisinier de France is an undisputable asset in the world of gastronomy; it is an honour to be among the some 300 chefs worldwide who have been awarded that title. By the same token, choosing Montréal to host the MCF event confirms the city's status as a gastronomic capital," said Europea's Chef and Master Chef of France, Jérôme Ferrer.

"Montréal is certainly one of our preferred host venues. For a long time, the city has been making a name for itself for its fine cuisine and creativity, two essential qualities of the Master Chefs of France. I have no doubt that the three days we spend here will be a golden opportunity for all our delegates to exchange ideas with their peers and be inspired by Montréal's creative and dynamic atmosphere," asserted Jean-Louis Dumonet, President of the American MCF delegation.

The Honourable Charles Lapointe, President and CEO of Tourisme Montréal added: "By deciding to hold their event in Montréal, the Master Chefs of France have shown how much they appreciate our wonderful city. It shows the extent to which our reputation for gastronomy is recognized, even by the most refined and knowledgeable connoisseurs of that milieu. The arrival of so many culinary artists also validates Montréal's presence in the Délice Network (an international network of good food cities). This kind of visibility can only benefit our city, in the sense that we will use it to strengthen our position as one of the world's great gastronomic destinations, thereby attracting even more gourmets and gourmands from around the world."

In addition to many great chefs from all across North America, the event will be attended by restaurant professionals who will work alongside these prestigious chefs to make French gastronomy more widely accessible. This event represents an opportunity to showcase the vitality and opportunity that Montréal brings to the table.
