Mitsubishi and its Dealers Donate $173,520 to Support Kids & Communities Affected by War, Poverty and Disease

MONTREAL, June 20, 2012 /CNW/ - Mitsubishi Motor Sales of Canada (MMSCAN) today helped bring the dream of a better life closer to reality for an estimated 3,470 children with a $173,520 donation to the international humanitarian organization Right To Play.

Presenting a cheque to Right To Play ambassador and hockey overtime hero Caroline Ouellette, MMSCAN's president and CEO Shin Fujioka said the donation by MMSCAN and its 81 Canadian dealers was raised in the annual Right To Play Challenge.

"In the four years of our involvement in Right To Play, we have raised over $1.6 million for children who benefit from this worthy cause," he noted. "During the challenge, we earmark a donation for every retail sale of a Mitsubishi vehicle. Our latest effort will make a difference in disadvantaged areas of Africa, Asia, the Middle East, South America and Canada."

Right To Play is a Toronto-based global charity that uses sport and play programs to improve health, build life skills and foster peace for children and communities affected by war, poverty and disease. Right To Play is working in 20 countries around the world and in 2010 began programs in partnership with First Nations in Ontario.

Ouellette scored in overtime to give Canada's women's hockey team the gold medal at April's IIHF world tournament in Vermont. A three-time Olympic gold medalist and five-time world champion, Montreal-born Ouellette is among an international group of athletes who support Right To Play. She, Fujioka and Right To Play's national director Robert Witchel expressed thanks to MMSCAN dealerships throughout Canada for raising not only the donation amount but also awareness.

"We rely so much on the support provided to us by Mitsubishi and are honoured and thankful to be their partner year in and year out. It is fitting that we celebrate their philanthropy on World Refugee Day when we celebrate the courage, strength and determination of the very people that Mitsubishi's support helps us to reach through our sport and play-based programs," said Witchel.
