MONTREAL, Nov. 29, 2012 /CNW Telbec/ - The McGill Higher Education Summit will take place on December 3rd and 4th at Thomson House, McGill University. This event is being co-organized by The Post-Graduate Students' Society of McGill University (PGSS) and the Students' Society of McGill University (SSMU).
The McGill Higher Education Summit will provide a forum for the McGill community to discuss key issues relating to the Quebec Summit on Higher Education taking place in February 2013. The McGill Summit will address the following topics in the context of the roles of higher education in Quebec
- Underfunding of universities: myth or reality?
- The place of international and out of province students
- Financing of universities: who should pay?
- Research, teaching, and support staff
- University-industry partnerships
Participants will discuss these topics directly with relevant stakeholders, such as student groups, university administrators, professors, representative bodies, and unions.
Confirmed contributors include Professor Heather Munroe-Blum (Principal and Vice-Chancellor, McGill University), Martine Desjardins (President of the FEUQ), Daniel Zizian (President and Director General, CREPUQ), Professor Vivian Namaste (Simon de Beauvoir Institute, Concordia University), Professor Remi Quirion (Chief Scientist of Quebec), Dr. Claude Montmarquette (President and CEO of CIRANO), Professor Darin Barney (McGill University), Professor Eric Shragge (Concordia University), Norma Kozhaya (Research Director and Chief Economist of the Quebec Employers Council), and Jérémie Bedard-Wien (Executive Committee of ASSÉ).
The intended outcomes of the McGill Summit are to adopt PGSS positions for the Quebec Summit and to advocate for alternative issues to be addressed at the Quebec Summit.
