Marché Central obtains BOMA BESt Level 3 certification

MONTREAL, Nov. 22, 2011 /CNW Telbec/ - Marché Central is proud to announce that on November 15, it was awarded BOMA BESt Level 3 certification, thus becoming the first retail business in Quebec to obtain this distinction.

Marché Central's achievement was made possible by the support of bcIMC Realty Corporation and Bentall Kennedy (Canada) LP, respectively the owner and the manager of the shopping centre. Both of these firms have developed clear policies demonstrating their proactive commitment to sustainability, the environment and energy issues.

BOMA BESt Program
Built on the harmonization of the BOMA Go Green and Go Green Plus programs, BOMA BESt comprises four levels of certification. To receive Level 3 certification, buildings must meet all the BOMA Go Green Best Practices and achieve 80-89% on the Go Green Plus assessment.

Higher performance and excellence in management
BOMA BESt certification stands as concrete proof of Marché Central's commitment to the environment. To satisfy the wide range of criteria established for the BOMA BESt designation, Marché Central adopted, several years ago, a set of best practices for energy and environmental performance.

These practices are aimed at energy conservation (worth 35% of the total mark), water conservation, waste reduction through recycling and composting, use of non-toxic materials and careful management of environmentally hazardous materials, indoor air quality and increased use of plants for carbon absorption.

Value-add for Marché Central
The information provided in a building's application for BOMA BESt certification is verified by a third-party assessor. The certification, concrete proof of a real commitment to the environment, is a value-add for the building that receives it. It encourages the building management and tenants to work together to multiply their ecological actions, particularly those aimed at waste and energy use reduction. Marché Central and its tenants are looking to the future, thus contributing to the betterment of their community and the coming generations.
