• Love Shines, an original documentary from The Movie Network and Movie Central, has its Canadian television premiere Saturday, May 14 at 9 p.m. ET/MT on HBO Canada

TORONTO, April 21 /CNW Telbec/ - HBO Canada, a multiplex channel of Astral's The Movie Network (Eastern Canada) and Corus Entertainment's Movie Central (Western Canada) goes inside the studio with Canadian singer-songwriter Ron Sexsmith as he records and releases his latest album, Long Player Late Bloomer. Love Shines, a feature-length music documentary from Paperny Films and director Douglas Arrowsmith, debuts Saturday, May 14 at 9 p.m. ET/MT on HBO Canada following its showing at the 2011 Hot Docs Festival in Toronto.

Love Shines takes viewers to the core of Ron Sexsmith's gift for song, intimately revealing his elements of character along the way. The film chronicles Sexsmith as he goes inside the recording studio with the legendary hit-maker and producer Bob Rock (Metallica, Bon Jovi, Mötley Crüe) as they work on Long Player Late Bloomer. The experience with Rock turns introspective and through a series of flashbacks, Sexsmith confronts the meaning of success, the realities of the music industry and the humble beginnings that sparked the birth of his songs. Punctuated by Super 8 footage chronicling his early years in the industry, the film also includes an extraordinary playlist and special appearances by Canadian artists Elvis Costello, Steve Earle, Feist, Kiefer Sutherland and Daniel Lanois.

Commissioned by Astral's The Movie Network and Corus Entertainment's Movie Central with funding from Astral's Harold Greenberg Fund and the Rogers Documentary Fund, Love Shines garnered rave reviews during its recent film festival run, which included screenings at the Vancouver International Film Festival, the Available Light Festival, and the SXSW Festival, where it took home an Audience Choice Award. Love Shines also recently premiered on BBC Four in the UK, which led Sexsmith and the documentary to become trending topics on Twitter and helped catapult his new album to the #1 spot on Amazon UK's Alternative and Indie chart.

Ron Sexsmith and Douglas Arrowsmith are scheduled to be in Toronto for the 2011 Hot Docs Festival, and will be available for a select number of interviews on Friday, May 6. To request an interview or a screening copy of Love Shines, please contact Nicolle Balen (The Movie Network) or Owen McCorquodale (Movie Central).
