Longueuil Agglomeration Makes Entrepreneurship A Priority - Pathway to Entrepreneurship now available to coach future entrepreneurs!

LONGUEUIL, QC, Jan. 21 /CNW Telbec/ - Partners from the fields of economic development, education, employment, and youth take concrete action to ensure the development of entrepreneurship in the Longueuil agglomeration. Their Entente de partenariat sur le développement d'un parcours vers l'entrepreneuriat [or Partnership Agreement for the Development of a Pathway to Entrepreneurship] with a three-year budget of $888,520 is aimed at informing and coaching students through the process of becoming entrepreneurs.

Pathway to Entrepreneurship is a sequence of activities allowing students to discover various types of entrepreneurs, get acquainted with the basic principles of starting up a business, and even assess their own entrepreneurship profile. After the assessment and validation of their entrepreneurship profiles, students receive individual coaching from guidance counselors who help them acquire business knowledge. The pathway ends with an introduction to the various services offered in the Longueuil agglomeration that can help entrepreneurs start a business.

Pathway to Entrepreneurship targets mainly students of age 18-35 attending vocational or technical programs with a high entrepreneurship potential. It also wants to reach out to women and cultural minorities. The partners have set an objective of 750 entrepreneurship profiles within three years.

Pathway to Entrepreneurship was developed after 14 local partners joined forces to raise the entrepreneurship awareness of a maximum number of participants with a high entrepreneurship potential. "We realized that, though several entrepreneurship development services were already available in our community, these services provided by our partners could be better tied together in a global offer approach. With this global service offer, future entrepreneurs benefit from added value in terms of coaching and knowledge acquisition. That is what motivated Forum jeunesse to initiate this shared process, where each partner's expertise would be put to good use," explained Forum jeunesse Longueuil's president Jean-François Caisse.

Forum jeunesse Longueuil and the Conférence régionale des élus (CRÉ) have played key roles in making the Agreement announced today a reality. "I am pleased with the synergy found on our territory, and I am happy to see that all the partners consider entrepreneurship to be a priority and a driving wealth-making force of our economy," stated Monique Brisson, president of the CRÉ-Longueuil agglomeration.

As part of the Agreement, partners are entrusting the CLD of the Longueuil agglomeration with the coordination and implementation of the action plan. "Pathway to Entrepreneurship encourages youth interested in entrepreneurship to acquire business knowledge. The program is offered in French and English. It immerses participants into the entrepreneur's world. Participants will discover the inherent qualities of a good entrepreneur and learn the basics of starting a business, thanks to the Opportunity-Based Business Coaching (OBBC) approach," explained Sonia Godbout, the CLD-Longueuil Agglomeration's general manager.

The agglomeration's five Carrefours jeunesse-emploi (CJE) will be coaching the students registering through their entrepreneurship awareness officers and guidance counselors. "Developing future entrepreneurs involves better informing youth about their true entrepreneurship potential. Our expertise tells us that there is not a single entrepreneur profile, but several. It is important to help individuals understand and overcome their limits. Our team will reach out to students and inform them. We will also offer them a toolbox to acquire the skills they need," further explained Stéphane Jolicoeur, general manager of CJE Laporte and representing the agglomeration's five CJEs.

Implementation of Pathway to Entrepreneurship will start in March 2011 in participating educational establishments. "We are happy to welcome Pathway to Entrepreneurship in our schools. Our contribution to this collective effort is to support the program before our teachers and students, and to support the Pathway's logistics within our establishments," said Louise Beaupré, Director of Continuing Education Services and Vocational Training at the Riverside School Board, representing the Agreement's four education partners.

"Becoming an entrepreneur is creating your own job and eventually participating to the creation of other jobs. Emploi-Québec Montérégie is proud to be associated with a project that will help energize Longueuil's job market," pointed out Martin Labonté, director of the Brossard Centre local d'emploi (CLE).

The "I AM My Own Boss" advertisement campaign will be launched in schools within the next weeks. Pathway to Entrepreneurship's very first workshop will take place on March 8 at the Access Vocational Training Centre in Saint-Lambert.
