Imaginations travel the world at 2011 TD Canadian Children's Book Week

- Annual literature event continues to inspire the joy of reading -

TORONTO, April 25 /CNW/ - From book stores to libraries to schools, over 50,000 children, teens and adults will participate in readings and workshops organized by The Canadian Children's Book Centre during this year's TD Canadian Children's Book Week. Thirty-five illustrators and storytellers will tour every province and territory across the country from Saturday, April 30, 2011 until Saturday, May 7, 2011.

The 2011 TD Canadian Children's Book Week theme is "Changing the World, One Child at a Time," and to help encourage young people to experience the joy of reading, this year's children's authors, illustrators and storytellers are bringing global stories to life. Author and illustrator Janet Wilson is just one of the many authors touring whose books aim to empower and motivate young readers to make a difference in the world. Wilson claims that she was inspired by her kids and the philosophy of Ghandi, "To reach peace we must begin with the children." Find the full list of who's touring and their books online at:

"It's so inspiring to see young minds getting excited about reading during these events," said Frank McKenna, TD's Deputy Chair and Literacy Champion. "The Canadian Children's Book Centre does an excellent job raising awareness of the quality of Canadian books available for young readers."

The Canadian Children's Book Centre has named Canadian television host, Ben Mulroney, as the honorary patron for TD Canadian Children's Book Week 2011. As the Book Week Idol, Mulroney will offer his voice to select story telling events. "I'm honoured to have been selected to be the 2011 Book Week Idol," said Mulroney. "A joy and love of reading is so important for children and as a new father, I'm already trying to inspire this in my boys."
