Hudak's Unchained Chain Gangs Will Put Ontario Families At Risk

TORONTO, Sept. 28, 2011 /CNW/ - Tim Hudak would put Ontario families at risk, taking dangerous prisoners out of jail, and putting them in parks next to our playing kids.

Hudak's scheme would make it mandatory for all prisoners to participate in his unchained chain gangs, working in parks next to kids.  Emptying our jails of every prisoner, every day, in every community just isn't safe.

Hudak has admitted the prisoners will not in fact be chained.  Nor would the guards be armed.  In fact, there would be 42 dangerous criminals for every 2 unarmed guards.

In the US, nearly every week there is an escape from an unchained chain gang.  In one case last summer, an escapee in Utah raped and strangled a young woman in an alley.  In another earlier this year, an escapee went on to rob a bank.

In Ontario jails today, 769 criminals are serving time for violent offences.  Another 646 are burglars and thieves.  And 261 are in for drug offences.

Ontario Liberals have put 2,300 more police on the streets and are building new, secure prisons to keep criminals behind bars where they belong.  Only Dalton McGuinty and the Ontario Liberals have a plan to keep families safe.

Tim Hudak? He's just not worth the risk.
