After having the entire team's equipment stolen during an Arizona tournament, minor hockey players and their families will avoid costly replacement

EDMONTON, Jan. 21 /CNW/ - Today, RSA Canada announced it will cover the replacement cost of the hockey equipment for each member of an Edmonton minor hockey league team, after the gear was stolen during a tournament in Arizona this past weekend. The Edmonton Southside Athletic Club team discovered all their equipment stolen from their trailer on Saturday morning. As the home insurer for the parent who rented the trailer, RSA covers the "property of others," which in this case means every team member's expenses - including those who do not have their own insurance policies. The equipment for just one player can cost a family approximately $1,500.00.

"When we found out about the theft of the equipment, and that some of the players didn't have insurance coverage, we knew right away we had an opportunity to make the lives of the players and their families a lot easier by stepping in and taking care of the entire replacement process," said Ted Koleff, Regional Claims Director, RSA Canada. "This just highlights the importance of having a good insurance policy - you always need to be prepared for the unexpected."

Working closely with local sports store United Cycle - who is providing a discount - and Aon Canada, the brokerage firm that sold the original home insurance policy, RSA will replace the equipment and help all 18 team members and their families.

"After such a disappointing event for the players, we were really impressed by the fast response by RSA and the goodwill shown by the Phoenix Coyotes - who graciously donated equipment so the team could compete in the tournament," said Christine Lithgow, Chief Broking Officer, Aon Canada. "As an insurance broker, it's our job to help get our customers' lives back to normal quickly and without hassle. We are thrilled to see that all players have had their equipment replaced, allowing them to get back on the ice as soon as possible."
