Gordon Food Service and BDO Canada LLP Make Home Ownership Dreams Possible for Habitat for Humanity Brampton Build

Dream Come True Sponsors will help to build a new house this summer and fall

BRAMPTON, ON, May 18 /CNW/ - Habitat for Humanity Brampton today thanked Gordon Food Service and BDO's Mississauga office for becoming Dream Come True Sponsors, with each donating in excess of $75,000 towards the building of a home in Hoskins Square in Brampton, scheduled for construction this summer and fall.

"We are thrilled to have the support of these two remarkable companies who are helping us to make home ownership a reality for a local family," says Thomas Fischer, Executive Director, Habitat for Humanity Brampton. "Gordon Food Service and BDO in Mississauga have been terrific to work with and true partners as we get ready for our June groundbreaking. These builds attract people from all walks of life, who come together to volunteer and donate their time and money to make home ownership a reality for Brampton families."

Brampton the first of eight for Gordon Food Service
Gordon Food Service is working with Habitat for Humanity to build one home in each of their eight markets in Canada over the next eight years. All Gordon Food Service staff across Canada, plus their Strategic Alliance partners Albion Fisheries, Fresh Start Produce and Intercity Packers are fundraising towards the $100,000 goal ($50,000 by staff and $50,000 matched by the company). This is the first house in their project and staff from local offices will be involved in 10 build days on the Hoskins Square project. Given Brampton's close proximity to the 600-employee Milton, Ont. office, staff are excited to participate.

"We want to make a difference in communities in which we work," said Frank Geier, President of Gordon Food Service in Canada. "Having to choose between food and shelter is an unfortunate reality that some Canadians face and we felt it was important to create a national program where we can give back to our local communities. We're very excited to be working in Brampton on our first build and have a series of exciting events planned to complete the fundraising."

BDO raises $81,228 over three years
Employees from BDO's Mississauga office have raised $81,228 over the last three years to help cover the cost of a house build for Habitat for Humanity Brampton and will participate in construction of the home over eight days.

"Our staff's motivation to support the Habitat for Humanity build is a true example of the BDO vision of one firm engaged to make a difference," said Peter Campbell, Managing Partner at the Mississauga office of BDO. "So while we were raising significant sums for local food banks and youth shelters, we were also fundraising for the Habitat for Humanity Brampton home with silent auctions, contests, and a bowling event that raised more than $63,000 alone. We can't wait to roll up our sleeves and help with the construction, as we recognize that helping someone to have a home can be life-changing."
