TORONTO, June 27, 2011 /CNW/ - Global News is pleased to announce it has won nine Radio-Television News Directors Association of Canada (RTNDA) National and Network awards. With award wins for Global National, 16:9 The Bigger Picture and several local affiliates, Global News won more national and network television awards this year than any other Canadian news organization.

Global News affiliates came up big at Saturday's RTNDA gala with five award wins in the 2010 National Television category, including the prestigious Bert Cannings Award (Large Market) presented to Global Toronto for its coverage of last year's G20 summit.

Global National won two prestigious network television awards, including the Gord Sinclair Award for its outstanding Canada Remembers coverage special - the first live special helmed by Global National Anchor Dawna Friesen. In addition, 16:9 The Bigger Picture was the recipient of the Hugh Haugland Award for creative use of video for the second year in a row.

These nine RTNDA national and network awards come on the heels of Global News' 17 previously announced regional awards - the most by any television network in the country.
