- Virgin Mobile's RE*Generation Phone to raise $200,000 for homeless and
at-risk youth programs
- Virgin Mobile and Virgin Unite announce $100,000 donation to
Dans la rue
MONTRÉAL, June 10, 2011 /CNW/ - At the opening of their first Canadian
flagship store today, Virgin Mobile was joined by Virgin Group founder
Sir Richard Branson, Glee star and Virgin Unite ambassador Cory Monteith and Québec pop sensation
IMA to introduce the RE*Generation Samsung Gravity 3 phone.
The limited edition RE*Generation Samsung Gravity 3 phone is up for
grabs starting today, and $15 from the sale of each phone will be
donated directly to the RE*Generation movement on behalf of Virgin
Mobile and Samsung. Together, they expect to raise $200,000 for the
RE*Generation movement to support homeless and at-risk youth programs
across the county.
Even better, $100,000 of the funds will go directly to Montréal charity Dans la rue to keep their iconic outreach van on the road for a full year. The
latest partner for the RE*Generation movement, Dans la rue is a grassroots, community-based organization that works with street
kids and at-risk youth aged 12 to 25.
"Initiatives like this are a perfect match for a business like Virgin
Mobile. It lets us use our widespread reach to raise awareness about
the issues of youth homelessness and inspire young people to get
involved and create real change," says Sir Richard Branson, founder of
the Virgin Group. "I want to thank Samsung for their on-going support
of the RE*Generation program and personally thank Cory and IMA for
coming out to show their support."
The RE*Generation Samsung Gravity 3 is perfect for everything from
hooking up to your fave social media accounts to sharing pics with your
friends. Plus, it gives you a warm feeling knowing that it helps raise
funds and awareness for at-risk and homeless youth in our communities.

Inspiring to lend a helping hand
Monteith, Branson, IMA and 20 fans also spent time at the Dans la rue Day Centre earlier today to cook up a BBQ lunch. Following a tour of
the Day Centre and the lunch, the trio also spent some time signing
autographs and chatting with their super-fans, each of whom spent three
hours yesterday volunteering with Dans la rue to do some good before today's lunch.
"I love everyone for coming out to help me volunteer for a great cause,"
says Cory Monteith. "Today wasn't just about having fun, but about
getting involved and volunteering at an amazing organization like Dans la rue to help homeless and at-risk youth in Montréal."
Jean Oelwang, CEO, Virgin Unite, said, "Cory is a dedicated and
passionate ambassador and we're extremely grateful that he is giving
his time to help us raise awareness of the issues that at-risk youth
face, as well as encourage volunteering amongst his thousands of fans."
"It was so cool to not only meet Cory, Richard and IMA today, but also
to have the chance to volunteer right next to them. Programs like this
are a great way to get involved and it's amazing to know that Cory
Monteith actually knows what I did to volunteer," says Alyssa Moffatt,
an excited fan who wrote an inspiring essay on volunteerism in order to
win her spot at today's events.
Virgin Mobile's RE*Generation Movement
In early 2008, Virgin Mobile Canada and Virgin Unite, the non-profit
foundation of the Virgin group of companies, joined together to create
the RE*Generation movement and empower a generation to help its own.
We're bringing together organizations that care about Canada's homeless
and at-risk youth and we're connecting them with people who want to
help. RE*Generation is a movement to support solutions to youth
homelessness and support at-risk youth programs in Canada. To date,
over $800,000 has been raised and dispersed to leading youth serving
agencies across the country. The RE*Generation movement is working with
a number of Canadian charitable partners to help get kids off the
streets and onto a path for a brighter future. For more information
