From learning about peregrine falcons to climate change, Holcim Canada employees take innovative steps to help create a sustainable future

TORONTO, April 18 /CNW/ - Earth Week always brings a bustle of employee activities at Holcim Canada's sites across the country. This year, our employees are taking Earth Week to the next level to get a broader understanding of the issues relating to the environment.

To help make a positive difference in our communities:

  • Employees in Concord, ON, will experience a presentation featuring live falcons from the Canadian Peregrine Foundation to learn more about biodiversity and how they can protect, restore and improve the natural environment. Peregrine falcons have been found at Holcim Canada cement plants and sites in Ontario and Quebec;

  • Holcim Canada employees in Quebec are once again participating in Défi Climat, the largest initiative in the province that engages and mobilizes people on climate change;

  • Our employees will have opportunities to divert more waste from landfills. In Ontario, a battery and cellphone recycling initiative will be rolled out in cooperation with Call2Recycle Canada. In Quebec, our employees are also collecting used clothing for local charities, as well as light bulbs and hazardous waste for proper recycling.

Our employees and their families, as well as local students, scouts, and guides will be planting more than 13,000 trees at our aggregate quarries in Ontario and Quebec.

"Holcim Canada is committed to the wise management of natural resources and is always working to leave a smaller environmental footprint," said Bill Galloway, Senior Vice President, Holcim Canada. "Earth Week provides an excellent platform for our employees to work with local communities, connect with nature and contribute to making a difference."
