First Wi-Fi Based WiMAX Wireless Network to be Deployed Across Montreal

Official project launch planned for September

MONTREAL, June 14 /CNW Telbec/ - Montreal will soon become the first
Canadian city to deliver wireless Internet and mobile IP telephony to
residents. A new WiMAX based Wi-Fi network is being deployed across the
metropolitan area thanks to a joint venture between two Quebec-based
businesses: independent Internet service provider and
Nomade Télécom, wireless network installer and operator.
Until early 2007, Quebec lagged behind other major metropolitan areas in
entering the era of wireless Internet access. This will change in September
when new wireless services will be made available first to residents of
Montreal's Plateau Mont-Royal neighbourhood. By 2009, the network will expand
to blanket nearly 300 square kilometres of Montreal servicing approximately
90% of residents. It will provide an affordable alternative to the oligopoly
maintained by companies currently providing telephone, cellular and Internet

The mission of this joint venture is to create an alternative to large
Internet service and IP telephony providers by offering quality services at
the best possible prices. "For less than $30 per month, Montreal residents
will soon be able to have wireless Internet access and IP telephone service
almost everywhere on the island," explained Daniel Robichaud, President of "Wireless telephony, including voice mail, call waiting and
free local calling will be available across the network with no per minute
charge, except in the case of long distance calls," he concluded.

The network has been designed to maintain its stability in the event of
any system disruption. "We believe that redundancy is the key to ensuring a
reliable, always-on service, something we know from experience our customers
need," stated Luc Picard, President of Nomade Telecom.
The network will enable Internet access at speeds of up to 5 Mbps, more
than fast enough for most users' needs. This speed, comparable to current
offerings from high speed cable and DSL providers, is possible thanks to the
WiMAX-powered back-end of the network.
Once deployment across Montreal is complete, the partners will expand
their network to the North and South shores of the city. Plans are also in
place to develop networks for Quebec City, Halifax, Toronto, Windsor,
Winnipeg, Calgary, Edmonton and Vancouver.

The complementary nature of and Nomade make for a perfect
fit. Together, the expertise of these two companies will ensure success for
the launch and development of citywide wireless networks across Canada.
The partnership will also allow the companies to offer independent,
secure wireless Internet and telephony networks to both public and private
organizations with services such as camera surveillance and utility meter
reading and reporting.
A well-known brand in high-speed wireless Internet access,
offers subscription management, network access and a solid customer service
infrastructure for Nomade. With the technical expertise and experience
required to deploy and manage reliable, high-quality and secure wireless
networks, Nomade will support the new network's WiMAX back-end and provide the
technology required for mobile IP telephony and other advanced services.
