TORONTO, May 16 /CNW/ - Ontario Student Trustees' Association launches second annual Ontario Student Survey, first ever, matching parent survey in partnership with People for Education.

Parents and students will answer the same 10 questions.

The Ontario Student Trustees' Association launches the second annual Ontario Student Survey, in partnership with Student Vote and Scholarships Canada today.

The Ontario Student Survey is a student initiated and student led survey with 10 questions on hot educational topics, as selected by students.

Ontario high school or middle school students who complete the survey will be eligible to win a series of prizes including a $500 bursary and an iPad.

2010 Ontario Student Survey garnered national media attention; the media coverage, as well as the results, can be found on

The Ontario Student Trustees' Association today also launches the parallel Ontario Parent Survey, in partnership with People for Education.  Parents and students are being asked the same questions, and the results will show where they agree and where they are miles apart.

The results of both surveys will be released in the fall and will provide topics for debate by politicians in the upcoming provincial election.

The questions:

1.  Do you think that a student wanting to establish a Gay Straight Alliance club in their school should be allowed to do so?
2.  If the Grade 10 Civics/Careers course were optional, would you take it?
3.       Do you feel that healthy food options are being provided within your school?
4.       Do you feel pressure to finish high school in four years?
5.       Is it ever acceptable for student and teachers to connect through social media outlets (e.g. Facebook)?
6.       Should teachers who coach/supervise extra-curricular activities be recognized for their contribution?
7.       If cyber-bullying occurs between students outside of school time, should the school take action?
8.       Do you feel that sex-ed class adequately addresses concerns of a sexual nature that you have encountered and/or expect to encounter?
9.       If you or a friend was experiencing mental health problems, such as stress, anxiety,  or depression, would you know where to go to get help?
10.     Has a fee charged for sports, teams, or extra curricular activities ever prevented you from participating?

Both surveys can be taken at from May 16 - June 16.
