ENPAR to Establish Demonstration Installation of its Unique ESD Nitrate Reduction Treatment System for Drinking Water

GUELPH, ON, Sept. 27, 2011 /CNW/ - Dr. Gene Shelp, President and CEO of ENPAR  Technologies Inc. (TSX:ENP)  ("ENPAR" or "the Company"), is very pleased to announce that the Company will conduct final tests of its ESD System at a municipal drinking water treatment facility in Guelph, Ontario. In May, Ontario's Ministry of Research and Innovation committed support to the project through the Innovation Demonstration Fund. Planning, Engineering and Environmental Services for the City of Guelph is acting as the official Demonstration Partner. Widely recognized for its leadership through environmental stewardship initiatives, the City is committed to the long term protection and conservation of precious water resources. The state-of-the-art, electrochemical technology was selected for its ability to significantly reduce the level of nitrate present in source ground water.

Design, manufacturing and assembly will be conducted at ENPAR's facilities in Guelph and Cambridge, Ontario. Installation and commissioning are planned for September/ October of this year. The operational and analysis phases of the project will continue until the Spring of 2012. It is expected that the modular technology will treat approximately 100,000 litres per day and reduce nitrate in drinking water to a level below the government mandated standard of 10mg/L. The demonstration project will enable ENPAR to assess the optimum operating conditions and related costs. Tested by several independent third parties, results indicate that ESD achieves high recovery rates of treated water on a consistent basis.

Prevalent in surface and ground waters around the world, nitrate contamination is implicated in the formation of carcinogenic compounds known as nitrosamines which represent a direct threat to public health and have been identified as toxic to livestock, such as cattle and sheep.

The versatile, environmentally friendly ESD System has the potential to improve the treatment of municipal drinking water, industrial process water, makeup water, and municipal wastewater around the globe.

"ENPAR is committed to offering high-reliability technologies that provide immediate solutions for the delivery of safe drinking water and responsible conservation of the world's most precious resource," Dr. Shelp commented. "We are confident that this demonstration project will provide near-term impetus to advance the ESD System to domestic and global markets."

The Ontario Ministry of Research and Innovation at Ontario's Global Water Leadership Summit stated in its backgrounder of May 18, 2011 that, "ENPAR Technologies' ESD System uses state-of-the-art electrochemical technology to turn municipal and industrial wastewater into safe drinking water and it promises to do it more efficiently and economically than any method currently available. ESD has the potential to transform water treatment around the world and enhance Ontario's reputation as a leader in water technologies."
