TORONTO, Feb. 1 /CNW/ - Cymat Technologies Ltd., a materials technology
company focused on the military, automotive and architectural
industries, today announced that its architectural product Alusion™,
will be utilized to clad the exterior façade of the newly constructed
Congress Center in Mallorca Spain. This project represents the single
largest public project under construction in Spain and is prominently
located in one of the major tourist destinations in Europe.
The contract, valued at $2.2 Million, will utilize over 200,000 square
feet of Alusion material in a 405,000 square foot build area that will
house exhibition halls, auditoriums, restaurants, and a hotel. The
Alusion™ materials will be delivered over a 7 month period commencing
Alusion was selected by renowned Spanish architect Francisco Mangado,
who won an open competition for the Congress Center. Mr. Mangado's
vision for the overall structure tries to conjure up the image of a
large fish, beached on the shore, with shapes which are sharply defined
yet flowing smoothly. Alusion was chosen for its unique random
appearance, complex texture and brilliant silver colour, helping to
represent the fish's belly.
"We are thrilled to be part of this iconic structure in Spain and
particularly proud to be working with an architect as prominent as
Francisco Mangado." said Dave Fowler, Cymat's President and COO. He
went on to say "This project represents our largest exterior cladding
application to date and serves as further affirmation of the appeal of
Alusion™ as a cladding material"
About the Architect:
Mr. Mangado has completed numerous award winning projects spanning 25
years and in 2010 was presented the International Architect Award given
by the Chicago Athenaeum (Museum of Architecture and Design) and the
European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies. Mr.
Mangado's numerous international lecturing engagements have included
Guest Professor at Harvard's Graduate School of Design, Visiting
Professor at Yale's School of Architecture and a recent local stop for
an Architectural Conference at Ryerson University. While in Toronto, he
took time out of his busy schedule to visit Cymat and was flooded with
design ideas for Alusion.
Cymat develops innovative materials for industry. The company has
worldwide rights, through patents and licenses, for producing
Stabilized Aluminum Foam. The ultra-light metallic foam is manufactured
by bubbling gas through molten alloyed aluminum containing a dispersion
of fine ceramic particles and can be produced as either Near-net Shapes
or Flat Panels. The result is a revolutionary material with a wide
array of features including very low density, mechanical energy
absorption, thermal and acoustic insulation, is recyclable, time and
temperature insensitive and has a relatively low cost of production.
Cymat is collaborating with a number of partners spanning the
automotive, architectural and blast mitigation industries. For further
