CWF Elects Lancombe, Alberta Resident as Board President

OTTAWA, June 21, 2011 /CNW/ - The Canadian Wildlife Federation (CWF) is proud to announce the election of Mr. Dave Powell as CWF Board President.

Mr. Powell has held various roles on the executive of the CWF Board over the past 8 years and was officially sworn in as president in a meeting of CWF members on Saturday June 18, 2011.

The CWF Board is responsible for setting the guiding policy of CWF - one of Canada's largest non-governmental, not-for-profit conservation organizations, representing more than 300,000 members from across the country. In 2012, CWF will celebrate its 50th Anniversary.

"Dave's commitment to wildlife and habitat conservation make him ideally suited to lead CWF as we celebrate our proud history of conservation achievements and chart our course for the next 50 years," said Wade Luzny, CWF CEO and Executive Vice-President. "The CWF works with Canadians from coast to coast to create something very important — a brighter future for Canada's wildlife."

Conservation education and conservation camps for youth are among the many activities that Mr. Powell has worked on. He has also been involved in many successful land purchase conservation initiatives. A registered technologist with municipal public works, he has been volunteering with provincial and federal conservation organizations for more than three decades.

"Furthering CWF's education programs that encourage young people to engage with nature will be one of my top priorities during my term," explains Mr. Powell. "Having our youth experience wildlife and nature first hand is a vital step to ensuring that they will have the knowledge and will to conserve our natural heritage."
