CTV Takes Off with X-Ceptional Premiere Week

TORONTO, Sept. 27, 2011 /CNW/ - CTV has kick-started the fall TV season with one of its best Premiere Weeks ever. With four of its new programs landing in the Top 20, CTV has increased its lead over its competitors for the same period last year, up 92% against Citytv, up 44% against Global, and up 33% against CBC. Meanwhile, the newly-minted CTV Two network has delivered impressive growth in Premiere Week, while all competing networks saw double digit declines. CTV Two was up 73% in total viewers as well as the key demos A18-34 (+75%), A18-49 (+69%) and A25-54 (+59%).

Ratings data reveals that CTV once again overwhelmingly wins Premiere Week with:

  • #1 Program of the Week: TWO AND A HALF MEN premiered to 4.9 million viewers, the most-watched regular series broadcast on Canadian television in six years and the second most-watched comedy broadcast ever in Canada.
  • 4 of the Top 5 New Programs: #1 New Reality Series, THE X FACTOR (2.2 million), #1 New Comedy WHITNEY (2 million), #1 New Drama PAN AM (1.9 million), and UNFORGETTABLE (1.7 million)
  • Audience increases for key series: TWO AND A HALF MEN and THE BIG BANG THEORY delivered series-high audiences; CSI had its most-watched season premiere in three years; CASTLE returned with its most-watched premiere ever; and THE AMAZING RACE delivered its most-watched Fall premiere ever.
  • Six out of seven nights: CTV delivered more viewers in primetime on six out of seven nights compared to the competition.
  • 81% of primetime timeslots: Of the 21 primetime timeslots (8-11 p.m.) on the schedule last week, CTV won 17 of 21 in total viewers; 17 of 21 for A25-54; 15 of 21 for A18-49; and 13 of 21 for A18-34.
  • 110% more viewers in primetime: From 8-11 p.m. last week, CTV delivered 110% more viewers on average than Global among total viewers, 227% more than CBC, and 374% more than Citytv. Against Global, CTV led by 101% among A25-54 and 104% among A18-49.

CTV and CTV Two are home to 16 of Top 20 shows in Canada last week: CTV saw four of its new series break into the Top 20 list.
