TORONTO, May 16 /CNW/ - Divorce is an everyday reality that touches many
couples and their kids. In Ontario alone, 37% of marriages end in divorce,
according to Statistics Canada. What's the impact on family life when a
breakup occurs? How can parents help their children through it? On Monday
May 28, 2007, TVOKids' Milton's Hotline and TVO's Your Voice approach the
subject like never before: a one-of-a-kind television-web event aimed at
getting both kids and parents talking, and helping them deal with the often
difficult implications of divorce on the family.
First up, divorce from a child's view. From 3:50 to 6:50 pm, TVOKids
broadcasts Milton's Hotline. It's live and interactive as TVOKids host Milton
and a Kids Help Phone counsellor tackle the topic, taking phone and email
questions from kids across Ontario about their feelings and concerns. Kids can
also submit their questions now at Following the broadcast, from
6:50 to 7:30 pm, the discussion moves to for a live webcast. The
webcast offers an ideal opportunity for parents to get a child's perspective
on how a breakup affects young ones.
Then at 7:30 pm, it's the parents' turn to share their experiences and
gain insight from experts and other parents. Your Voice, TVO's live,
interactive parenting show available only at, uncovers the
emotional, practical and cultural sides of divorce. Parents and caregivers can
submit their questions online at or call 1.888.891.1195. How
can parents recognize when a child is really hurting? How does shuffling kids
between two homes impact a child's social and academic activities? What role
does cultural background play? Host Cheryl Jackson explores these questions
and more with the following guest experts:

    - Gary Direnfeld, a social worker based in Dundas, Ontario, with over
25 years experience counselling parents and children
    - Saunia Ahmed, an academic in clinical psychology who counsels
families in the South Asian community
    - Dr. Barbara Landau, a Toronto lawyer and psychologist who now acts as
a mediator for families going through divorce
