Concrete measures to support Greater Montréal's competitiveness - Montréal International hails City of Montréal's "Energizing - Collaborating - Succeeding in East-End Montréal" action plan

MONTREAL, Nov. 3, 2011 /CNW Telbec/ - Montréal International (MI) lauds the "Energizing - Collaborating - Succeeding in East-End Montréal" action plan announced by the City of Montréal as part of its 2011-2017 Strategic Economic Development Plan. This plan identifies five strategic priorities and proposes six major developmental projects and is aimed at developing East-End Montréal to its full potential and by extension stimulating the competitiveness of the entire Greater Montréal region.

The developmental projects include supporting the development of promising economic sectors, including clean technologies, advanced logistics and bio-food, as well as stimulating innovation. "Montréal International supports the priorities and actions proposed as they are in line with our mission—particularly as they relate to attracting foreign talent and investment and promoting Greater Montréal as an ideal venue for creativity, innovation and investment," said Jacques St-Laurent, President and Chief Executive Officer of Montréal International.

A second priority is also of great interest for MI—maximizing economic spin-offs from Montréal Technopole to promote Montréal as a city of higher learning, develop the territory's science and technology assets together and attract new talent and businesses to the sector. Three complementary priorities also contribute to energizing East-End Montréal: modernizing industrial spaces, adapting transportation infrastructures to economic and urban requirements, and offering high-quality living environments to attract and retain a strategic workforce.

"Montréal International offers its full cooperation and reiterates its openness to joining forces with other public and private economic stakeholders and partners that are working for the development and prosperity of East-End Montréal," added Mr. St-Laurent. "By leveraging the region's distinctive strengths—in particular its capacity for innovation—and strengthening its joint projects, we will be able to accelerate the economic growth of Greater Montréal and enhance its international profile."

Montréal International also salutes the implementation of adapted programs and financial tools, including the East-End Montréal Development Fund (PR@M) to carry out high-benefit projects and create development opportunities.
