Concerns Grow over Hazardous Horwath's Toxic Plan

Pledge to undo Boreal Forest Protection latest NDP betrayal

TORONTO, Sept. 9, 2011 /CNW/ - More Ontarians are warning against Andrea Horwath's hazardous plan for Ontario, Liberal MPP Linda Jeffrey revealed today on a new website:

Horwath continues to betray Ontario families, and our environment, and even her own NDP stalwarts by repeatedly siding with Tim Hudak's PCs instead of supporting positive solutions. More experts are warning against Hazardous Horwath's toxic plans:

"I'm worried about your baby, I'm worried about my granddaughter so [Horwath's policy] is not where I would have gone."
(Gerald Caplan, Former Ontario NDP Campaign Manager, TVO, Sept 6, 2011)

"Hudak's Conservatives and Horwath's New Democrats would increase carbon pollution ... the Conservatives and the NDP have not committed themselves to protecting wildlife and wildlands."  (Stephen Hazell, former Executive Director of Sierra Club of Canada and Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society, September 5, 2011)

"The NDP have taken a page out of Tim Hudak's playbook by refusing to stand up for Ontario's environment," said Liberal MPP Linda Jeffrey.

  • Horwath pledged yesterday to undo protection of the Boreal Forest by scrapping the Far North Act
  • Horwath has sided with Tim Hudak's PCs by pledging to kill thousands of clean energy jobs
  • Horwath voted with Tim Hudak against the Clean Water Act and sided with the pesticide industry when she voted against banning toxic pesticides
  • The disappointing NDP platform barely touches the environment but contains a scheme to benefit oil companies

"When women see that Andrea Horwath chooses to side with Tim Hudak's PCs over the health of Ontarians, they don't want to be part of that," concluded Jeffrey.

"Only Ontario Liberals have a positive plan to move Ontario forward."
