Survey finds Canadian women enjoy getting together to indulge in
good food, cocktails and gossip about sex and relationships
TORONTO, April 28 /CNW/ - Significant others beware - any time your gal
says she's getting-together with the girls for a "Ladies Night In"
there's a good chance she will be gossiping about your sex life and
relationship. This is according to a recent survey conducted by Ipsos
Reid for Sauza® Tequila. The survey also found eight out of ten (83 per cent) Canadian
women who attend "Ladies Night In" in the past year consider it to be
an important ritual and 96 per cent say that it's an opportunity to
indulge in food and cocktails.
It seems "Ladies Night In" creates the right tone for girls to speak
their mind because when asked what a "Ladies Night In" party means, the
majority of respondents (57 per cent) agreed that it's all about
venting of personal issues such as a significant other, kids, work, and
friendships gone wrong. Aside from talk, a girls-only get-together is
also perceived as a chance to get together to relax and unwind after a
long week at work (54 per cent agreed).
"Ladies Night In" Is Time to Spill the Beans and Talk
With all that relaxing, unwinding and indulgence in good food and
alcoholic beverages, it's no wonder there are many loose lips at
"Ladies Night In" parties. Gossip is the central focus of a girls-only
evening - 71 per cent of women admit to gossiping about a number of
subjects with sex and relationships topping the list (32 per cent)
followed by their co-workers (13 per cent) and their significant other
(12 per cent). Surprisingly, gossip about celebrities (8 per cent),
neighbours (4 per cent) or in-laws (2 per cent) are not always
predominant topics at a "Ladies Night In". Only about three in ten (29
per cent) women claim they do not gossip at all.
Aside from juicy gossip, laughter is also sought after during a "Ladies
Night In". When it comes to the ideal fantasy celebrity guest, the
quirky and hilarious actress, Tina Fey, is the number one choice (37
per cent) among a list of eight female celebrities - four in ten women
prefer her to the always-up-for-a-good-time Cameron Diaz (22 per cent).
Canadian actress, Rachel McAdams - the girl-next-door type - placed
third at 12 per cent.
Hosting a "Ladies Night In" Made Easy
Throwing a successful girls-only get-together doesn't need to be
complicated - it can be as simple as laying out a spread of
easy-to-prepare finger foods and make-ahead drinks and cocktails.
Hostesses need to stock up on alcoholic beverages - a "dry" party isn't
considered a success by many, as two out of three women (66 per cent)
believe that alcoholic drinks and cocktails are needed for a successful
party. Make-ahead drinks in pitchers, such as margaritas, allow a
hostess to enjoy more time with her friends than in the kitchen.
Choosing a fun theme, such as "South of the Border Night" with
Mexican-inspired food and margaritas can also help make for a memorable
night - 50 per cent of Canadian women believe a theme is important for
a successful "Ladies Night In".
Stock up on Sauza Tequila

Night In" party go from a quiet get-together to a great time. It can
also loosen tongues for more juicy gossip!

Ipsos Reid conducted the survey, via its online I-Say panel, among 1,032
women who have had at least one ladies' night in during the past year.
The survey was in field from March 1 to 4, 2011, and a probability
sample of this size would yield a margin of error of +/-3.0 percentage
points, 19 times out of 20.
