Coast Capital's North Van location features in-branch iPads and "Money Chat" app

New extended hours aperio 2.0 branch also includes space for local business exhibits

SURREY, BC, Nov. 30, 2011 /CNW/ - Coast Capital Savings is stepping up the ante when it comes to branch design and features with the opening of its new North Vancouver location which includes iPads loaded with a special app that customers can use to map their way to improved finances.

The new branch located at 845 Marine Drive in North Vancouver opened November 30 and provides the first glimpse of the credit union's remodeled aperioTM (Latin for "to make open") branch concept, which was introduced in 2005. The enhanced aperio 2.0 design retains some of the features of the earlier model including a concentric, open layout, as well as additions such as a small business gallery where local businesses can display their products.

"Our new North Vancouver branch is the first to offer iPads that customers can use in-branch to access our Where You're At Money Chat app, designed to guide them through a step-by-step process to making better decisions about how they manage, save, grow and protect their money," said Kathy McGarrigle, chief operating officer, Coast Capital Savings. "The iPad app provides a great way to use technology to facilitate in-branch customer interaction and helps make key financial decisions less complicated, in line with Coast Capital's mission to provide simple financial help to our customers."

Coast Capital's Money Chat app guides customers through a series of questions intended to pinpoint opportunities to improve their financial wellbeing. The app provides customers with tips on how to improve their finances, based on their responses to the questions, as well as worksheets and calculators showing the projected results of changes they can make. Coast Capital plans to roll out its in-branch iPads and Money Chat app at other aperio 2.0 locations that will be opening in future.

Other key features of Coast Capital's new aperio branch concept include a "help hub" or greeter desk (which also serves as the iPads station) and "help pods" instead of conventional counters for customer transactions. Also making its debut is dedicated space within the branch for local business exhibits.

"We want to send the message that Coast Capital Savings is in business for business and we want to help our local entrepreneurs with great products and excellent service, as well as provide them with a prominent marketing platform in our branch," said Wayne Berg, Coast Capital's chief commercial officer. "Each quarter, we will use our small business gallery to provide visibility to an innovative local business and showcase their products and services to the rest of the community."

Coast Capital North Vancouver branch manager Dan Dente said the goal is to be "North Vancouver's local financial institution" and an integral part of the community, while offering products such as the popular free chequing account and a superior customer service experience to North Vancouverites. He said the branch is seeking input from residents on a community theme that will be developed for display at the branch.

"We are proud to make North Vancouver our home and thank the community for welcoming us because we believe this is a great place to do business," Dente said. "We invite members of the community to come in and try out our iPad app or talk to us about how we can help with any of their financial needs. We'd also like to hear their ideas on what the community represents to them so we can consider it for our branch theme which will be unveiled shortly."

Coast Capital's new North Vancouver branch will be open extended hours Monday from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Tuesday to Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.; and Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

To mark the opening of the new branch, Coast Capital staff will be on hand next to the Lonsdale Quay Seabus Terminal on Thursday December 8 from 6:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. handing out free Faresaver transit tickets or free specialty coffee coupons that can be redeemed at Brazza, a local North Vancouver coffee house.
