TORONTO, Jan. 12 /CNW/ - Clayton Ruby will hold a press conference on
Wednesday, January 12, 2011 at 1:30 p.m. at the law offices of Ruby &
Shiller to announce the details of a lawsuit launched against the
Toronto Police and seven police officers as a result of the arrest and
detention of Dorian Barton who was a spectator at a peaceful and lawful
protest at Queen's Park on June 26, 2010.
The SIU conducted an investigation into Mr. Barton's assault at the
hands of the Toronto Police and the investigation was concluded with no
charges being laid. The SIU was again unable to identify the officers
involved. "It is very concerning that the SIU was unable to identify
any of the officers who were involved in the beating of Mr. Barton"
said his lawyer Clayton Ruby. Charges were laid against Mr. Barton and
then dismissed on the first court date. "If there were charges, there
had to be paperwork and a sworn criminal Information. Where is the
paperwork? It will identify the officers." said Mr. Ruby.
Mr. Barton will attend the press conference and present photographic
evidence obtained from the public that identifies the officers who
assaulted him and then arrested him. Mr. Barton calls on the SIU to
conduct a full investigation into the vicious assault upon him.
