CGHRC launches national recruitment drive for grocery industry

TORONTO, April 4 /CNW/ - The Canadian Grocery HR Council (CGHRC), with funding support from the Sector Council Program (SCP), has launched a national recruitment drive to help generate awareness of industry career paths among the public, and encourage the adoption of retention and management strategies by industry to reduce workplace turnover.

The recruitment drive will involve outreach to education, local community organizations, and employment/equity serving agencies in search of partnership opportunities to strengthen the relations between industry and the labour market. The recruitment drive will also involve a promotional campaign aimed at grocery retailers to promote the CGHRC's suite of HR resources that have been designed exclusively for the sector to address its ongoing human resource challenges.

"We're competing with a lot of other sectors for talent. We need to let people know that the career opportunities are diverse, national and limitless for the ambitious person willing to learn on the job," says Patricia Parulekar, executive director of the CGHRC.

The CGHRC will be unveiling its promotional campaign at Grocery Showcase West 2011 at the Vancouver Convention Centre in Vancouver, British Columbia, on April 10-11, 2011. Show attendees will receive 30% off all CGHRC Frontline™ HR products and be treated to free workplace gifts by visiting the Council at booth #1107.

As a precursor to this recruitment drive, the Home & Garden Television (HGTV) recently aired a short documentary on careers in the grocery industry back on Saturday, March 12, 2011, as a follow-up to the CGHRC's print/online advertising campaign that it launched back in the New Year targeted at job seekers. The five minute video, developed with The Profile Series, and hosted by Academy Award winner Lou Gossett Jr., featured success stories of real professionals working in the sector.

Established in 2003, the Canadian Grocery HR Council (CGHRC) is a nationally recognized, non-profit organization funded by the Government of Canada's Sector Council Program that brings together representatives from business, labour, education, industry associations, government and other professional groups to provide information and solutions in response to the food retail/wholesale industry's human resource challenges.
