Mr. Pat Foody Sr. 2011 Receives SIM's Raphael Katzen Award

OTTAWA, May 5 /CNW/ - Duncan Macleod CEO of Iogen Energy, is pleased to announce that today Iogen's founder, Mr. Pat Foody Sr., will be awarded the prestigious 2011 Raphael Katzen Award by the Society of Industrial Microbiology.

Mr. Foody is being honoured for a lifetime achievement in the commercialization of biofuels. It recognizes Mr. Foody not only for his contributions to the establishment and development of Iogen, but also for pioneering the development of the commercial advanced renewable fuels made from cellulose.

"This award recognizes the pivotal role Patrick Foody Sr. played in building an advanced renewable fuels industry," said Mr. Macleod. "Pat defied the early critics and naysayers. His vision and dedication made cellulosic ethanol a reality today."

"Raphael Katzen was a friend and a renewable fuel visionary and I am honoured to receive this award. I would like to accept the award on behalf of Iogen, and the team that made cellulosic ethanol happen," said Mr. Patrick Foody Sr. in accepting the award.

The Society for Industrial Microbiology is a nonprofit, international association dedicated to the advancement of microbiological sciences, especially as they apply to industrial products, biotechnology, materials, and processes. Founded in 1949, SIM promotes the exchange of scientific information through its meetings and publications, and serves as liaison among the specialized fields of microbiology. Membership in the Society is extended to all scientists and companies in the general field of microbiology.
