TRENTON, ON, Nov. 4, 2011 /CNW Telbec/ - 8 WING TRENTON - A Canadian Forces CC-130 Hercules aircraft will fly over la Chapelle
Ste-Jeanne D'Arc at CFB Valcartier Saturday afternoon in honour of
fallen Search and Rescue (SAR) Technician Sergeant Janick Gilbert.
This flypast is scheduled to take place shortly before 4 p.m. on
November 5th. During the flight the crew will drop a weather streamer, simulating a
procedure carried out during SAR missions prior to SAR Technicians
parachuting from the aircraft.
The aircraft will fly at an altitude no lower than 500 feet above the
highest point on the base before resuming a higher flying altitude.
Flypasts by CF aircraft are carefully planned and closely controlled to
ensure public safety at all times.
The Royal Canadian Air Force is honoured to pay tribute to Sgt. Gilbert,
who died during a search and rescue mission in Nunavut on October 27.
The SAR mission concluded with the rescue of two local citizens from
the Igloolik community.
