Canadians Detest Cleaning the Family Throne

New Scrubbing Bubbles® Survey Reveals Canadians would Choose a Trip to the Dentist or a Dinner with In-laws over Cleaning the Toilet

TORONTO, Nov. 21, 2011 /CNW/ - Let's face it: scrubbing the toilet isn't the most glamourous household cleaning activity. In fact, an unclean toilet is the biggest turn-off for many Canadians (42 per cent) when it comes to messy situations at home according to a recent Bathroom Confidential survey1 conducted on behalf of Scrubbing Bubbles®.

While a dirty toilet bowl makes many Canadians blanch, if some could avoid a cleaning date with their toilets, they would! In fact, more than half of Canadians (55 per cent) would go to drastic lengths and rather take on even the most taxing tasks than lathering up the lavatory. Of these respondents, 22 per cent noted they would rather host their in-laws for dinner, and almost one-in-five (18 per cent) admitted they would rather visit the dentist than clean the toilet.

"Cleaning is my life, but even in the business of cleaning, tackling the toilet is the least appealing part of my job," said Melissa Maker, cleaning expert and owner of Clean My Space. "We all know the bathroom is only as clean as your toilet, and in my experience, having the right cleaners - like new Scrubbing Bubbles® One Step Toilet Bowl Cleaner - and setting a routine, rather than avoiding one, is the best way to keep things spotless and sparkling."

Preserve the Porcelain Peace at Home

Almost one-third of Canadians (31 per cent) admit to feeling overwhelmed when it comes to cleaning their homes, and 20 per cent confide that cleaning chores aren't divided equally in their households. To make it easy for everyone to pitch in, and to get the job done in record time, Scrubbing Bubbles® has introduced the Scrubbing Bubbles® One Step Toilet Bowl Cleaner - a powerful cleaner that tackles tough stains like toilet rings, hard water marks and limescale.

And it's easy to use! Simply clip the nozzle over the rim, step, spray and walk away. The 360-degree sprayer will cover the bowl completely, even under the rim. The Scrubbing Bubbles® One Step Toilet Bowl Cleaner is available wherever Scrubbing Bubbles® products are sold, including Walmart, Canadian Tire, and grocery retailers across Canada at a suggested retail price of $9.99 (starter kit) or $4.99 (refill).

Beautify Your Bathroom in Four Simple Steps
In addition to using Scrubbing Bubbles® One Step Toilet Bowl Cleaner in the bathroom, Maker shares some additional tips on keeping the bathroom clean and tidy:

  • Everything in its right place… It sounds so simple, but a tidy, streamlined counter looks cleaner too. Maker suggests lining counter items up parallel or perpendicular as this is most pleasing to the eye. Place any excess items into decorative baskets or hide temporarily in a linen closet or under the sink for a streamlined look.
  • Let the air flow… Turn on the overhead fan, open a window and leave the bathroom door open to make sure fresh air circulates, especially after a steamy shower. This will help freshen stale air and rid the room of humidity that can cause mildew to grow.
  • Lather up… Soap dishes and pumps can develop build-up over time. Soap pumps need to be cleaned free of gummed-up liquid soap as well as a sticky and bacteria-laden exterior. Soap dishes build up a slimy crust over time if not rinsed and washed. For a full cleaning, place the empty soap pump (pump it out a few times first) or dish onto the top rack of the dishwasher and place on the sterilization cycle for a super-fast and hands-off clean.
  • Keep things cleaner, longer… Once you've invested the time and elbow grease required to clean your bathroom, it can be frustrating to find things descending into dirty again. To make your deep cleaning efforts last, try the Scrubbing Bubbles® Extend-A-Clean™ line-up, which is specifically designed with active cleaners that keep cleaning for up to four days. Product line includes: Scrubbing Bubbles® Extend-A-Clean™ Power Sprayer, Scrubbing Bubbles® Extend-A-Clean™ Mega Shower Foamer® and Scrubbing Bubbles® Extend-A-Clean™ Fresh Brush® Flushables.
