Dr. Richard Hyndman to Assume Lead Role

CALGARY, April 21 /CNW/ - The Canada School of Energy and Environment (CSEE) is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Richard (Rick) Hyndman as Interim Executive Director. Dr. Hyndman will take up his new role effective immediately.

The CSEE welcomes Dr. Hyndman's exceptional industry, government and academic experience. Dr. Hyndman has worked at the most senior levels of the Alberta Department of Energy including serving as Deputy Minister. For the majority of his professional life, he has been working on public policy, primarily in the areas of energy and environment. Prior to joining the CSEE and since 1998, Dr. Hyndman was the Senior Policy Advisor for the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers (CAPP), focusing on climate change and air pollution issues. During his time with CAPP, he was instrumental in developing policies for Canada's national climate change process and responsible for outlining the oil and gas industry perspective on climate change policy. Dr. Hyndman is an Adjunct Professor at the University of Alberta, teaching in the School of Business. He has a PhD in economics from the University of Toronto.

In his role as Executive Director of the CSEE, Dr. Hyndman will foster and support the growth and mission of the CSEE through research in the areas of sustainable energy development and environmental management. Specifically, he will be responsible for expanding opportunities for collaboration and engagement of the top researchers in the world, bringing together the best minds to examine the pressing environmental issues facing the energy industry and then making their expertise accessible. He will serve as an information resource for policy and industry leaders and focus on stimulating discussion among researchers and decision-makers that will guide and inform public policy on energy and environment.  Dr. Hyndman brings credibility, experience and passion for what is currently happening at the intersection of energy and environment and in his new role with CSEE, he will continue to focus on keeping sustainability as a top priority.
