Canada Post adds third stamp to the Royal Wedding collection

Among first countries to issue a stamp featuring the Royal Couple on their wedding day

OTTAWA, June 28, 2011 /CNW/ - Canada Post today announced a third stamp to complete the Royal Wedding collection. The domestic Permanent™ stamp features a candid photo of the newlyweds in their open landau shortly after completing their wedding vows at Westminster Abbey. The stamp will commemorate the first Royal Visit to Canada following their wedding. One million booklets of 10 stamps are available for sale online and by mail order and as of tomorrow, June 28 at post offices across Canada. The two other stamps were issued on the wedding day, April 29, and already over 5 million stamps have been sold.

"This stamp is an excellent way for Canadians to commemorate the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's first visit to Canada," said the Honourable Steven Fletcher, Minister of State (Transport). "I am pleased and proud that Canada will welcome the Royal Couple on their first official visit abroad."

The photograph for the new stamp of Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge was personally approved by the Royal Family and shows the bride and groom waving to the crowd of well-wishers that lined the streets leading to Buckingham Palace. This will be among the first stamps after the wedding to be issued worldwide.

"This stamp, along with the other Royal Wedding stamps, will become great keepsakes for the millions of people across Canada who watched the wedding of the century," says Deepak Chopra, President and CEO, Canada Post. "We are extremely proud of our collection and are thrilled to see how Canadians and people from around the world have embraced it. So far, the Royal Wedding collection is among the fastest selling commemorative stamps we've ever issued."

Also available is a souvenir sheet of the stamps featuring an exterior view of Westminster Abbey, where the marriage took place, and a souvenir sheet with the Parliament Buildings in Ottawa in the background.

The stamps and related products were created by Montreal-based graphic designer Isabelle Toussaint who has been the designer for the entire Royal Wedding collection as well as Canada Post's popular flower series.
