Bristol-myers Squibb Canada gives back to the community with health promotion and volunteer effort

More than 200 employees across Canada taking part in fourth annual Community Action Day

MONTREAL, Sept. 30, 2011 /CNW Telbec/ - Bristol-Myers Squibb Canada is giving back to the community this week with two days of activities.

Yesterday, the company held a health information day at its offices in the Ville St-Laurent Technoparc to which its employees, as well as those of other neighbouring companies, were invited to take a variety of health tests such as measuring blood pressure and blood sugar, and learning how to make their lifestyle healthier.

Today, more than 200 BMS Canada employees at the Montreal head office and across the country will take the day off from their regular work to volunteer at a variety of community and charitable organizations as part of the company's fourth annual BMS Community Action Day.

This year's event is aimed at continuing the success of the past three years. In the Montreal area of the BMS head office in Ville St-Laurent, employees will be volunteering with the following organizations, helping with different tasks such as window washing, sorting materials, painting and cleaning: Moisson Montréal, Héritage Laurentien, Parc des Rapides, Omega Day Centre, Welcome Hall Mission, Accueil Bonneau, Carrefour d'entraide de Lachine, Le Nichoir, West Island Assistance Fund, West Island Palliative Care Residence and West Island Cancer Wellness Centre.

BMS employees across Canada will be volunteering at a variety of community organizations, including: a shelter in Halifax, food banks in St. John's, Edmonton, and Guelph and London, Ontario, the Good Shepherd Centre in Hamilton, the Ottawa Mission, the Scott Mission in Toronto, Winnipeg's Siloam Mission, the Calgary Drop-In Centre and at a breast cancer walk in Quebec City and the Keep Vancouver Spectacular Beach Cleanup.

"Community Action Day is an important event on our calendar, giving all of us a chance to give back to our community in a variety of ways," said Alain Boisvert, Vice President Market Access, Bristol-Myers Squibb Canada. "The day allows us to live up to the company's commitment to help patients and our communities. It also allows us to see first-hand and contribute to the amazing work being done by these community groups and agencies."
