Bollywood Megastar Akshay Kumar joins the First Annual Diwali - A Night to Shine

In support of Emergency Medicine at University Health Network

TORONTO, Sept. 21, 2011 /CNW/ - Mr. Ajay Virmani, President & CEO of Cargojet and Entertainment Chair for the Diwali Gala Committee announces, in collaboration with Heroes for Humanity, a dazzling Bollywood line-up for the first annual Diwali - A Night to Shine fundraising gala in support of University Health Network's (UHN) Emergency Departments.  The event will take place at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel, Toronto on Sunday, October 16, 2011.

Special guests will include Guest of Honour Akshay Kumar. Mr. Kumar, the undisputable King of Bollywood, with over 120 films to his credit, including Housefull, Singh Is Kinng, Welcome, and Heyy Babyy and numerous endorsement deals is unarguably one of the most influential persons in the Indian Film Industry. Most recently Mr. Kumar executive produced his first Indo-Canadian production Breakaway that had its world premiere at this year's Toronto International Film Festival. Today, globally recognized, Mr. Kumar serves as Canadian Tourism Councils Official Ambassador for India and has received a Honourary Doctorate of Law from Windsor University for his exceptional work in the film industry and his philanthropic endeavours. "Canada is my second home, I owe a lot to Canada and my fans here and I consider it an honour to be asked to support University Health Network in their efforts to raise funds for Emergency Medicine." said Mr. Kumar.

The evening will also feature Bollywood actresses Yana Gupta and Jiah Khan, and internationally renowned fashion designer Narendra Kumar will dazzle guests with a contemporary fashion show and Indian dance extravaganza. Internationally acclaimed band Joshi will provide the music while guests dine on exquisite Indian cuisine prepared by Fairmont Royal York's own Chef David Garcelon.

The evening will also feature an exclusively commissioned Indian Art Exhibit and Auction by Mrs. Arti Chandaria - iarts Project.

"Emergency Medicine is the front gate to any hospital system and our emergency departments provide timely, expert, high quality, safe patient care through innovation, education and research." continued Dr. Chopra.
