Billy Graham association invites prayer for postal strike

Christian evangelistic organization asks Canadians to pray for quick resolution

CALGARY, June 3, 2011 /CNW/ - The rotating Canada Post strike can present important challenges to charities, including ones like the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association of Canada (BGEAC) that focus on proclaiming the Good News of Jesus Christ, as the flow of donations to fund their ministries is disrupted.

"We and many other Canadian charities communicate with our constituents using the mail service, and we also depend on mailed-in donations to do our work," said Fred Weiss, BGEAC's executive director. "We invite Canadians to join us in praying to God for a quick resolution of the rotating strike so the good work of charities can continue."

"In recent years," Weiss added, "we have been communicating about our work via our website. There has been a growing trend toward online donations, as well as monthly giving through automatic withdrawals from bank accounts. However, we also mail our supporters to inform them of our work, and we receive an important portion of our donations through the mail. Those are processes the postal strike is disrupting."

BGEAC has a variety of evangelistic ministries currently under way throughout Canada - including "Rock the River" in Winnipeg, "Epicentre" in Ontario's Waterloo-Wellington region, and the tweens-oriented "Dare to be a Daniel" evangelism program that is being introduced to churches in Quebec - plus more internationally. All of these ministries depend on donations, including many that arrive by mail.
