B+H Wins 2011 HSBC International Business Award

Firm honoured for leadership in international trade in Asia-Pacific region

TORONTO, May 12 /CNW/ - B+H announced today that it has been awarded the inaugural HSBC International Business Awards in the Leadership in International Trade - Asia-Pacific category. Finalists and winners were honoured at the Art Gallery of Ontario on May 10, 2011 at a glittering gala celebration hosted by celebrated entrepreneur and philanthropist, Brett Wilson.

"We are delighted to receive the Leadership in International Trade - Asia-Pacific Award" said B+H CEO Bill Nankivell. "We have worked very hard to establish our presence in China and to further expand our business in the Asia-Pacific market. This is a true reflection of the work everyone in the firm, in all our offices around the world, has done to make us a leading international design practice. We are very proud of this accomplishment."

As part of the Business without Borders program, the HSBC International Business Awards honours Canadian companies that have successfully branched out beyond our borders.

"As emerging markets in Asia-Pacific continue to spearhead global economic growth and recovery, they present a number of opportunities for Canadian companies to explore," said Mark Watkinson, Senior Executive Vice President, Head of Commercial Banking, North America, HSBC. "HSBC Bank Canada salutes the accomplishments of B+H, which is successfully doing business in this region."

"Our success in Asia did not come easily" said B+H Chairman Daniel McAlister, who accepted the award at last night's gala. "Through a lot of determination and by developing innovative design solutions that respect the value of local customs, we have played a role in changing the way buildings can be designed with timeless elegance, reduced energy consumption and increased use of recycled materials. We are very proud to have been a part of the process."

"Adapting our design and project management processes to the rapid pace of business in Asia has been challenging," said Karen Cvornyek, President, B+H Asia. "We have developed and implemented special systems that allow us to quickly respond to clients and market opportunities - a key factor in our success. We are thrilled to have our work recognized with the HSBC International Business Award for Leadership in the Asia Pacific region!"

To be eligible, firms must be majority Canadian owned (50.1 percent); headquartered in Canada; generate at least 10 percent of their revenue from activities outside of Canada; and have minimum sales of CAD $2.5 million for each of the last two fiscal years. Full eligibility requirements are available on www.bwob.ca/awards. Applications were selected by a judging committee drawn from Canadian Business magazine, The Globe and Mail Report on Business, Import Export Canada, the Economist Intelligence Unit, the Desautels Faculty of Management at McGill University, and the Sauder School of Business at the University of British Columbia.
