FORT MCMURRAY, AB, Jan. 10 /CNW/ - The Communications, Energy and
Paperworkers Union of Canada welcomed 226 new members on New Year's Day
when the Alberta Labour Board confirmed that workers at Bee Clean
Maintenance, working at Suncor in Fort McMurray had voted 62% to join
CEP Local 707.
"These workers clearly understood the benefits a union can bring, and
they remained strong and determined to win a voice on the job". "Bee
Clean workers just want respect," said Wally Ewanicke, CEP's Western
Region organizer who led the campaign.
Bee Clean workers provide janitorial services at the Suncor site where
almost 3,000 operations workers belong to CEP Local 707.
CEP is the largest union in many key sectors of Canada's economy,
including energy, forestry, communications and media.
