Baycrest Foundation appoints top global fundraiser

Ms. Susan Sutton to lead international fundraising campaign

TORONTO, Sept. 9, 2011 /CNW/ - Baycrest is pleased to announce the appointment of Ms. Susan Sutton as Vice-President, Global Institutional Advancement and President of the Baycrest Foundation.

Ms. Sutton joins a global leader in the care of aging adults, recently ranked by Accreditation Canada as among the very best healthcare organizations in the country for delivering excellence in care, patient safety and corporate operations. Baycrest is also home to one of the world's most respected research laboratories in cognitive neuroscience, the Rotman Research Institute.

Ms. Sutton - an American fundraising executive with over 26 years of experience leading campaigns for prestigious academic and health sciences centres in the United States - will quarterback a major global fundraising campaign for Baycrest.

The global campaign will support the development of Baycrest's new Centres that will lead the way in creating new cost-effective and transformative methods to optimize physical and mental wellbeing for the world's aging population.

"It is an honor and a privilege to be associated with a unique and prominent patient care and research institution such as Baycrest. The campaign will not only be transformative to the historic home of Baycrest, but will have the potential to transform geriatric medicine and patient care delivery to seniors," said Ms.Sutton who was instrumental to the success of the recently completed $2 billion campaign at Johns Hopkins Medicine.

"We are truly excited to have Susan bring her outstanding talents for international fundraising to our organization," said Dr. Anthony Melman, Chair of Baycrest's Board of Directors. "Her strengths are well aligned with our vision to expand Baycrest's global reach and leverage international fundraising opportunities that are essential for helping our organization create a future where we lead the world in aging and brain health."

"Susan is a strategic thinker with great fortitude and experience in leading the design and implementation of large-scale international fundraising programs and campaigns," said Warren Kimel, Chair of the Baycrest Foundation Board of Directors. "She will energize our fundraising efforts in new and creative ways and this is very exciting."

Throughout her career, Ms. Sutton has created large, multidimensional fundraising strategies focused on major gifts, planned giving, annual giving, corporate and foundation support and events. In addition to Johns Hopkins Medicine, she has held senior management positions at other sector-leading organizations in the U.S. including The Pennsylvania State University, the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill, and the National Jewish Centre for Immunology and Respiratory Medicine.

Ms. Sutton takes over the top position of fundraising at Baycrest from Florence Weinberger, who stepped in as Interim President and Vice-President of Development earlier this year after the departure of Mark Gryfe who concluded a successful 10-year run as Foundation President.
