Corporate executives to compete at Frontier College's annual SCRABBLE®
TORONTO, Feb. 28 /CNW/ - On March 2, 50 Bay Street companies will gather to challenge their
business colleagues to a game of SCRABBLE® at Frontier College's
seventh annual SCRABBLE® Corporate Challenge, presented by TMX Group.
The Design Exchange in Toronto will be filled with senior executives
from banks, investment, technology, telecommunications, accounting, and
law firms, for a one-night, no spell check SCRABBLE® competition, in
support of Frontier College, Canada's original literacy organization.
Frontier College provides literacy programs for Canadians through a
network of thousands of volunteers.
"It is vitally important that as Canadians we are aware of the
importance of literacy and how it relates to the well-being and
productivity of all people in our country. Literacy is crucial to the
success of our economy. Low literacy skills are directly linked to
poverty, poor health, and high unemployment. Frontier College works in
communities across Canada to give people the skills and confidence they
need to reach their potential and contribute to society. The support
of TMX Group and Bay Street makes an incredible difference," says
Sherry Campbell, President, Frontier College.
One of the most recognized fundraising events on Bay Street, Frontier
College's SCRABBLE® Corporate Challenge sparks a fierce competitive
atmosphere. Players rack up triple word scores to vie for the coveted
TMX Cup and the opportunity to open the Toronto Stock Exchange and
proudly display the TMX Cup at their office for one year.
"TMX Group is proud to once again support the SCRABBLE® Corporate
Challenge," said Tom Kloet, CEO, TMX Group. "It is very encouraging to
see so many participants come together to raise awareness for the
important cause of improving literacy skills."
On March 2, CNW Group Newsmakers will defend their TMX Cup title.
Looking to defeat CNW Group are former champions
PricewaterhouseCoopers' Alphabet Soup (2008) and the Scotiabank
Nerdiques (2005 and 2006).
The SCRABBLE® Corporate Challenge was established in 2005. This unique
fundraising event was created for companies to gather for an evening of
fun competition, while supporting literacy. A tournament based on the
word game SCRABBLE® is the perfect event to bring awareness to low
literacy rates in Canada. Since 2005, the event has raised over $1
million, which spells success for Frontier College and its important
mission to improve literacy rates across Canada.
