Axia's Covage Awarded Concession to Operate Submarine Fibre Network between Corsica and Mainland France

CALGARY, Feb. 11 /CNW/ - Axia NetMedia Corporation (Axia) today announced that its French-based company Covage, a joint venture with VINCI Networks, has been awarded the network concession to activate and operate the submarine fibre cable between Corsica and the mainland of France.

The Territorial Collectivity of Corsica (CTC) selected Covage to operate the submarine fibre network between Corsica and the mainland after an extensive consultation process launched in October 2009. The Corsica concession agreement is for 15 years and Covage's total investment will be €850,000.

The fibre network will utilize three pairs of existing submarine fibre cable between Bastia and Nice which have been made available to Covage by the CTC. Deployment is expected to be completed by the end of 2011.   Covage intends to offer wholesale bandwidth services to operators between its existing network infrastructure on the mainland of France and Corsica which will contribute to increased competition in the Corsica telecom services marketplace.

Jean-Michel Soulier, President of Covage commented, "We are delighted to support the CTC in its digital development program and provide our experience for the benefit of expanding their digital marketplace."
