TORONTO, Feb. 17 /CNW/ -   The award winning 2011 Kia Sportage debuted a new look at the 2011 Canadian International Auto Show with the unveiling of the Toronto FC Special Edition vehicle. Mid-fielder Julian De Guzman and former Toronto FC captain Jimmy Brennan took the wraps off the completed customized Sportage that will catch the eye of both soccer fans and car enthusiasts at the 2011 Toronto Show. The Special Edition Sportage is a collaborative effort between partners Kia Canada and Toronto FC based on reaching a common goal using the proceeds to support a charity effort to be determined.

"This special edition Sportage is a vehicle specifically designed to celebrate the spirit of our partnership with Toronto FC that was established in 2007," said Robert Staffieri, Director of Marketing Kia Canada Inc. "With the Sportage's athletic and muscular design, we couldn't think of a better vehicle to customize with our partner - Toronto FC."

The 2011 Sportage Compact Utility Vehicle has been the recipient of five Canadian Awards since arriving at showrooms in July 2010. Most recently, the Sportage was awarded the coveted "Car of the Year" by Motoring TV. Other awards include Motoring TV "Best SUV / CUV under $40,000, 2011 World of Wheels Editors Choice Awards Compact Utility of the Year, Compact Utility of the Year, le Guide de l'auto 2011 Best SUV and "Best of the Best" finalist by the Canadian Automotive Jury.

The Sportage TFC Special Edition vehicle will be present at select 2011 Toronto FC home games at BMO Field and will also be used at a variety of promotional events and venues throughout the Greater Toronto Area.

In 2010 The MLSE Team Up Foundation with the support of Toronto FC's Corporate Partner KIA invested more than $60,000 in significant upgrades and improvements to G. Ross Lord Park, including the installation of new turf to key portions of the pitches, new player benches with awnings, repairs to the bleachers and a maintenance plan.

On February 21st or Family Day, four Toronto FC special guests will conduct two autograph sessions. The autograph sessions will be available from 11:30am - 1:00pm and again from 2:30pm - 4:00pm. In addition to autographs, instant prizes and select Toronto FC gifts will be given away to guests at the brand-new Kia Canada display located in the South Building of the Metro Toronto Convention Centre.

The Sportage TFC Special Edition vehicle was specifically designed and crafted with ultimate detail to showcase both brands in the highest form. Three areas of the vehicle were individually designed of which allowed for the common theme that intertwines throughout the vehicle - exterior, interior and engine bay.

2011 Kia Sportage
Starting at $21,995, the all-new Sportage marks a dramatic shift in design direction for Kia's CUV.  Longer, lower and wider than the previous generation model, the new Sportage is easily identifiable by its 'family' grille, a major design cornerstone from Kia's Chief Design Officer, Peter Schreyer. "I want to give Kia global appeal, and I want that appeal to be about design above all else", said Schreyer.

Equipped with a long list of standard safety features and impeccable performance in front, side, rear and rollover crash testing, the Sportage is an honorable recipient of the "2011 Top Safety Pick" by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. All trims of the Sportage come outfitted with driver and passenger advanced front airbags, front seat-mounted side airbags and side curtain airbags. The Sportage also showcases front active headrests, four-wheel Anti-lock Brake System (ABS), Electronic Stability Control (ESC) with Traction Control (TC), Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD), Hill Assist Control (HAC) and Downhill Brake Control (DBC), Roll Over Prevention (ROP) and Vehicle Stability Management (VSM).

The 2011 Sportage is the first Kia vehicle to feature a Dynamax All-Wheel-Drive (AWD) system with similar systems typically found on vehicles in the luxury segment. Dynamax AWD functions by continuously monitoring driving conditions to provide the perfect amount of torque needed for any driving situation, providing optimized traction at all times. With 176 horsepower being derived from a 2.4-litre DOHC four-cylinder engine, the Sportage offers stunning fuel efficiency, using as little as 6.3 liters per 100 kilometers on the highway and 9.5 litres per 100 kilometers in city driving conditions. Kia has also recently announced the Sportage SX trim, which will house the all-new flagship engine, a 2.0-litre Turbo Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI), producing 260 horsepower and 268 lb-ft of torque.
