ACMO and CCI-Toronto Joint Government Relation Committee Are Excited about the Ontario Government's announcement to Launch Condominium Review Consultations

TORONTO, June 8, 2012 /CNW/ - The Ministry of Consumer Affairs today announced opening public consultations to review the Condominium Act, 1998.  The Association of Condominium Managers of Ontario (ACMO) and the Canadian Condominium Institute, Toronto Chapter (CCI-T) are pleased with the government's desire and willingness to work with all industry representatives and believes working in close cooperation and collaboration with government will achieve the best results for all parties.

The review will directly engage the entire condominium community, including owners, residents, developers and property managers.  Members of the condominium community will have the opportunity to speak about their issues, hear the concerns of others and work together to develop solutions.  Details of the public engagement process and information about how to participate will be announced this summer.

"The Canadian Condominium Institute - Toronto and Area Chapter is pleased that the Ontario government has officially announced the opening of the Condominium Act, 1998 for a complete review.  We congratulate the government in starting the process and also for approaching it in a new and innovative way which is intended to dramatically reduce the usual time it takes to create and pass new legislation, while allowing those who are most affected by the legislation to decide its future.  CCI looks forward to continuing to work with the government so that the best legislation possible is created to help ensure a fair and vibrant condominium community for the future," said Bill Thompson, President, Canadian Condominium Institute (Toronto and Area Chapter)

"The Association of Condominium Managers of Ontario is thrilled that the Government of Ontario has recognized this is the appropriate time to review and update the Condominium Act, 1998. We believe that changes are needed to reflect condominium living in today's environment and to ensure that this legislation is designed to meet the needs of the industry in the years to come. As the Association representing professionalism in this rapidly growing industry ACMO is excited to be a part of a new consultative process that includes all stakeholders. We look forward to working with the Government on changes that will provide consumers with important protections and ensure that Ontario remains a leader in the condominium industry in North America." Dean McCabe, President, Association of Condominium Managers of Ontario.
