2011 Montreal International Auto Show: A real success!

MONTREAL, Jan. 24 /CNW Telbec/ - The 43rd Edition of the Montreal International Auto Show (MIAS) has officially closed its doors after welcoming 207 208 visitors over a period of ten (10) days, between January 14 and 23, 2011. It's a real success with a 10% increase compared to last year and a record attendance for the past 5 years.

This year, the Performance Zone impressed visitors with 40 modified vehicles that have been lovingly lavished with incomparable creativity.

The environmentally-themed section, On Route to the Future, presented in collaboration with Hydro-Québec, has shown the latest technologies about electric vehicles and useful information about personal transport electrification, more specifically on the recharging of electric cars, alternative energies and green technologies.

This year, auHEBDO presented the Suzuki test drives and offered people the chance to try the new Kizashi. 877 visitors took the opportunity to learn more about this Japanese manufacturer's product!

Extremely pleased with the outcome of this year's Edition, Auto Show President, Mr. Carmine D'Argenio, proudly commented "the significance and the impact of our special attractions remain as important this year as ever. Indeed, the 2011 attractions were particularly impressive in their originality and their diversity!"

Once again this year, three (3) days were dedicated to a special cause. For each visitor who was wearing pink, $2 was given to the Quebec Breast Cancer Foundation (QBCF). When adding all of the donations from our generous visitors, the QBCF received a total of $2,630. Another successful "Pink Days".

As for the 27th annual blood donor clinic, the numbers speak for themselves. 780 generous souls stopped by to give their precious gift of life. The Auto Show, always proud to be associated with Héma-Québec and CTV Montreal for this event, extends its deepest thanks to all donors and to everyone who contributed to the phenomenal success of this year's blood drive. Together, we help save lives!

Also, in keeping with its previous editions, the Charity Preview evening, whose spokesperson this year was well-known comedian Lise Dion, was another tremendous success. Over 3,500 guests attended the special evening. The event allowed organizers raise $448,653 to benefit five (5) worthy causes within the Greater Montreal's medical community: Fondation du CHUM, Montréal Sacré-Coeur Hospital Foundation, MUHC-McGill University Health Centre Foundation, Pierre-Boucher Hospital Foundation and Santa Cabrini Hospital Foundation. Since it premiered back in January of 2005, the event has managed to raise more than $2.3 million for various foundations of the Greater Montreal's health care community; an achievement of which the automotive industry is extremely proud!

Desjardins General Insurance presents the Montreal International Auto Show, organized by the Montreal Automobile Dealers Corporation, in collaboration with The Gazette.
