2011 Energy Efficiency Week - Cascades Proposes Solutions to Traffic-related Problems

KINGSEY FALLS, QC, Nov. 24, 2011 /CNW Telbec/ - Cascades Inc. (TSX: CAS), a leader in recovery and in green packaging and tissue paper products, is pleased to announce that its Cascades Transport division will contribute to reducing the problems linked to traffic congestion.

Cascades Transport is now offering price reductions to its customers provided they agree to receive their deliveries on the Island of Montreal outside of peak hours, that is, between 8:00 p.m. and 4:00 a.m.  Besides alleviating this social problem, this measure will contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Cascades thus hopes to avoid the annual emission of approximately 25,000 kg of CO2 equivalent.

"A pioneer in the field of green transportation, Cascades is proud to propose a positive solution to traffic-related problems, underlined Jean-Yves Delisle, General Manager of Cascades Transport.  And we hope that the rest of the industry will follow suit."

This initiative complements a long series of measures implemented by Cascades Transport over the last several years, such as the installation of streamlined side skirts which increases aerodynamic performance and auxiliary heating systems and air-conditioning in truck cabs, as well as the application of incentives that target the behavior of drivers.  The performance of Cascades Transport has garnered numerous awards, two of which are the Prix Energia, awarded by l'Association québécoise pour la maîtrise de l'énergie.

These new measures represent a 10% reduction in price and are effective immediately.

Founded in 1964, Cascades produces, converts and markets packaging and tissue products that are composed mainly of recycled fibres. The Company employs close to 11,000 employees, who work in more than 100 units located in North America and Europe. Its management philosophy, its more than 45 years of experience in recycling and its continued efforts in research and development are strengths that enable Cascades to create new products for its customers. Cascades' shares trade on the Toronto Stock Exchange, under the ticker symbol CAS.
