>> smart Canada concludes cross-country plugged-in tour

TORONTO, Nov. 7, 2011 /CNW/ - smart Canada recently concluded the national smart plugged-in tour, making its final stop in Sherbrooke, QC. This pan-Canadian journey spanned over four months, beginning in Victoria, BC on June 17, 2011, and subsequently traveling to the east coast and then back to Quebec to visit every smart Centre across Canada.

The overall goal of the tour was to provide Canadians from coast-to-coast the rare opportunity to personally test drive the technologically advanced, zero local emission smart fortwo electric drive. After more than 2,000 test drives, which covered over 8,000 local emission-free kilometres, customer feedback was extremely positive.

Tour participants who had the chance to test drive the smart fortwo electric drive consistently marveled at the brisk acceleration made possible by the engine's instant torque, and they were equally impressed by the vehicle's generous 135 kilometre range. In addition, the consensus among drivers, especially current smart fortwo owners, was they appreciated that the lithium-ion battery powered smart fortwo electric drive still retained the smart fortwo's legendary fun to drive quotient.

The highly anticipated tour was promoted by every dealer in their respective markets, ensuring that current smart and Mercedes-Benz owners and local media all had the opportunity to participate. In certain cities, dealers also invited potential fleet and small business customers, or hosted events which coincided with the 125! Years Patent-Motorwagen tour. Organizing both events concurrently allowed the powerful contrast of having the world's first automobile alongside one of the the world's first production electric vehicles.

With smart Canada's more than 36,000 Facebook fans actively engaging in conversations on the site and sharing information about tour dates and their personal experiences, social media also played an integral role in creating excitement about the tour prior to each stop.

The entire tour was chronicled by a professional photographer, and specific images representing different cities will be made available for press and fans of the tour.

In addition, until December 31, 2011 those interested in regular Facebook updates from smart Canada can visit www.facebook.com/smartCanada to enter a contest to win a 2013 smart fortwo electric drive cabriolet.

"The smart fortwo electric drive is yet another pioneering example of our company's overall vision for a more sustainable future," said Tim A. Reuss, President and CEO of Mercedes-Benz Canada. "We are thrilled to continue smart's established tradition of redefining intelligent transportation, and the extremely positive feedback we have received from our dealers and potential customers regarding the smart plugged-in tour corroborated our own huge excitement about the smart fortwo electric drive. We look forward to demonstrating our continued leadership in the field of emission-free mobility by making this revolutionary zero local emission car available for purchase at smart Centres across Canada next year."
