Genie voters go green with over 125 hours of online viewing
OTTAWA, Feb. 29 /CNW Telbec/ - Zip.tv, Canada's online video service, is
celebrating the success of its partnership with the Academy of Canadian Cinema
and Television (ACCT) as Academy members logged 128 hours of online viewing
during the Genie Award voting period.
"Our goal is to help bring the Academy into the digital age by giving
them an easy and convenient way to engage members in the voting process and
we've exceeded all expectations," said Rick Anderson, President and CEO of
Zip.tv. "Members watched the available videos 227 times totalling 128 viewing
hours over the 25-day voting period. Not only is that a significant amount of
time to spend watching video online, but members were able to log in to view
videos from anywhere in the world, any time of the day or night. It gives
voters great flexibility to view the films in a short period of time."
Eight of the 11 nominated films in the theatrical shorts and documentary
categories were available for online viewing. "We're working with the Academy
to expand the number of categories offering streaming video for the site next
year. Online video is ultimately the future for home entertainment and we're
pleased to be at the forefront of that transition," said Anderson. Zip also
employed its DVD mailing expertise to deliver over 490 feature length
nominated films to voting members across Canada as part of the Academy's
