TORONTO, Nov. 5 /CNW/ - ZipLocal Inc. (TSX Venture Exchange: ZIP), today
announced a host of major site enhancements that will offer Canadians a
category defining intuitive and collaborative online search experience.
"Ziplocal is all about enabling our users to access their business
communities. These enhancements will allow for a much faster, intuitive and
more community focused search experience," said Elaine Kunda, President and
CEO of ZipLocal Inc. "Whether it's providing a ZipSearch for people to explore
their communities or providing a forum for ZipPeople to review the best
businesses in their communities, we are bringing businesses and consumers
together across the country."
Live as of November 1, enhancements to ZipLocal's popular search engine
The new site's platform is built in Ruby using the Rails framework. This
provides flexibility and rapid development, improved speed, search relevancy
and cross browser support.
Online Consumer Community
Logged in users or 'ZipPeople' have a voice in ZipLocal's online
community by contributing real world reviews of local businesses. Each posted
review adds to a ZipPerson's ZipScore. Similar to eBay's seller scoring
system, reviewers gain credibility within the community through multiple
postings. Reviewers with the highest ZipScores will have their reviews
ZipFeatured on the site. All ZipPeople reviews are searchable and appear when
a Zip reviewed business is displayed in search results.
Enhanced Business Review Content
ZipLocal has teamed with multiple third party content providers across
Canada to provide hyper-local review content. Relevant business and service
reviews from Sweetspot.ca, Eye Weekly, HomeStars and Fresh Daily will appear
in ZipLocal searches, greatly adding to users' search experience and
confidence in local businesses. Alliances with additional content providers
will be ongoing.
Ziplocal's Proximity search allows users to quickly find 'what's good in
your hood.' Retail outlets, restaurants and services can be searched outwards
from any address in a wide range from one kilometer to two hundred kilometers.
This allows users to search anything in their own backyard and beyond to find
exactly what they are looking for.
In phase one of ZipLocal's launch, President and CEO Elaine Kunda
committed to developing the site's product roadmap, generating content, and
expanding geographic coverage throughout Canada. Under Ms. Kunda's direction,
ZipLocal's development team embraced a focused schedule working primarily on
user-based and community-based content generation. This phase two launch has
been implemented seven months later.
The site enhancements announced today position ZipLocal for aggressive
growth in the search engine and online advertising marketplace and have
realized Ms. Kunda's vision.
