Zinedine Zidane launches "Zidane and Friends" National Three City Soccer Tour Thursday June 25th in Toronto

    TORONTO, June 23 /CNW/ - French soccer star Zinedine Zidane launches the
much anticipated Canadian soccer tour "Zidane and Friends" Thursday June 25th
on BMO Field in Toronto. Playing for the first time in Canada, Zidane's three
city tour will make stops in Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver - with a portion
of proceeds to benefit UNICEF Canada. The goal of the tour is to raise
awareness of soccer amongst youth while at the same time benefiting a good
cause. Zidane will then head to popular restaurant and celebrity haven Ultra
on Queen Street West for an exclusive dinner and live appearance.

    About Zinedine Zidane

    37 year old French International soccer star Zinedine Zidane (a.k.a
Zizou) is recognized as one of the greatest soccer players in modern times. He
has played professionally in France, Italy and Spain and was a member of the
French national team that led France to two World Cup appearances, including a
title in 1998 (FIFA World Cup Champion). His career accomplishments include
helping France win the Euro 2000 in addition to winning the 2002 UEFA
Champions League with Real Madrid and an equally impressive stint with
Juventus FC.
    One of the only two three-time FIFA World Player of the Year winners
(Ronaldo being the other), Zidane was also named the European Footballer of
the year in 1998. He retired from professional football after the 2006 FIFA
World Cup.
    As Goodwill Ambassador to the United Nations Development Program (UNDP)
he makes Tour appearances and fills stadiums in Europe, Africa and Asia with
his annual "Match Against Poverty" on behalf of many charities including the
UNDP, UNICEF, and ELA (a French charity).
