Yum! Restaurants International mobilizes millions of employees and customers in more than 100 countries during inaugural World Hunger Relief Week



    KFC Canada, Taco Bell Canada, Pizza Hut Canada, and Long John Silver's
    Canada to raise awareness and funds for the United Nation's World Food
    Programme

    TORONTO, Oct. 9 /CNW/ - Hunger kills one child every five seconds around
the globe. In response to this dire situation, Yum! Restaurants International
(Canada) LP and its brands - KFC Canada, Taco Bell Canada, Pizza Hut Canada
and Long John Silver's Canada - will rally together during World Hunger Relief
Week between October 14-20 to raise awareness and desperately needed funds for
the United Nation's World Food Programme.
    In an effort to address the harsh reality that 850 million people suffer
from hunger every day, Yum! Canada encourages all of its customers, employees
and suppliers to become part of the solution to end world hunger through
in-store and online donations during World Hunger Relief Week. A donation of
just $1 has the power to feed five children in need and help fight the
devastation of hunger.
    "The Yum! Canada family of employees is dedicated to eradicating hunger
and is eager to engage the customers of all four of our Canadian brands during
World Hunger Relief Week," said Jon Prinsell, president of Yum! Restaurants
International (Canada) LP. "World hunger doesn't concern just Canadians - it's
a global issue, which is why the entire Yum! Brands organization has taken on
this global initiative. We believe that everyone can play a small role. Dollar
by dollar, we can raise awareness and the much-needed funds to stamp out world
hunger."
    In addition to World Hunger Relief Week, employees at Yum! Canada
restaurants are committed to help alleviate hunger in the communities in which
they operate. Yum! Canada will donate more than $10,000 to local food banks on
behalf of the three restaurants that raise the most funds during World Hunger
Relief Week. The initiative coincides with Yum!'s 10th anniversary and was
created as a way to give back and make the world a better place.

information about hunger, the World Food Programme and how to donate to World
Hunger Relief Week; updates on the World Food Programme's outreach activities;
Google mash-up maps highlighting volunteer updates from around the world and
much more.

Food Programme. "With demographic trends, climate change and soaring
commodities prices, the challenges of feeding the hungry are increasing. It is
critical that we take action through innovative approaches to public awareness
and fundraising to wipe out hunger."
    Funds raised by Yum! Canada will go directly to feeding people in the
World Food Programme's areas of greatest need including expanding school
feeding programs to serve more children and families, providing essential food
assistance to new mothers and their infants, and increasing school attendance
among girls by providing take-home food rations.
