THORNHILL, ON, April 20 /CNW/ - CAA South Central Ontario's (CAA SCO)
annual Worst Roads campaign is on hiatus this year.
For the past eight years, the launch took place in August and the voting
lasted six weeks. The aim this year is to update and improve the
popular campaign while continuing to provide our voters with a voice.
"It just makes more sense to hold the campaign during the spring season,
following the spring thaw when our roads are at their worst due to
harsh winter elements," said Faye Lyons, Government Relations
Specialist, CAA SCO.
This year, CAA SCO was faced with less than six months to plan and
prepare for a spring campaign. "Timing is one of the reasons we are
taking the year off from the campaign," added Lyons.
CAA SCO is also reaching out to our voters in order to gather feedback
and improve the annual campaign. We still want to hear from drivers,
cyclists and pedestrians about the transportation issues in your
community that matter most to you. Voters can e-mail comments and
concerns to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Last year CAA SCO introduced a new category; Top 20 Best Roads. Steeles
Avenue took that honour and was named the Best Road in 2010. For seven
years, Steeles Avenue made CAA's Top 20 Worst Roads list. For four of
those years, Steeles Avenue topped that list.
"But the work is not over, more still needs to be done to keep our roads
in good repair for future generations," said Lyons.
